Electrical Engineering Apprentice

Employer

Framatome BHRs core business is the development and testing of mechanical components such as pumps or valves. We develop test rigs to test these components and test them for customers. We also develop scale models to test water systems to support computer models for customers to ensure when they build their water system it will work correctly.

On our process side we undertake experiments for mixing chemicals so that our customers can successfully mix new products.

As Framtome we have more work in the Nuclear industry; decommissioning old Nuclear Power Stations and developing experimental rigs for new stations.

Job Description

At Framatome, you will be working with some of the best Engineers in the UK who develop testing solution for our customers. You will take a big part in build our test rigs and building new innovative products.

The Apprentice Electrician is also responsible for the following:

Learning about electrical components:

  • Circuit protection: fuses, and circuit breakers.
  • Switches, including relays.
  • Wiring how to connect, make of ends and specify the correct type.
  • Isolators and motor starter panels.
  • Electric motors.
  • Transformers.
  • Instrumentation.

Other responsibilities:

  • Wiring up components for simple panels to complete rigs.
  • Working on assembly and test projects, taking readings of values from instrumentation, and using a computer to log the information.
  • Safe working on electrical circuits and machinery.
  • Testing electrical circuits.
  • Installing factory and office wiring and isolation boards.
  • Reading engineering drawings and developing the capability to make the part from the drawing.
  • Troubleshooting electrical circuits and effecting repairs.
  • Design of plc systems, their assembly and commissioning.
  • Undertaking safety training and able to create and follow risk assessments.
  • Assisting our Engineers on site with trials of equipment.
  • Be part of a Continuous Improvement culture and be a member of a team.

What we are looking for: 

  • A desire to work in the engineering field with a hands-on approach.
  • Computer literate.
  • Willingness to learn and listen.
  • Enthusiastic about engineering.

Entry requirements

GCSE Grade 4/C in Maths & English

Desirable:

GCSE Grade 4 in a Science subject or Practical such as Woodwork/Metalwork

Predicted grades will be accepted

  • Engineering Technician L3 Mechatronics Pathway
  • Training with Milton Keynes College
  • Ongoing training, support and development with the employer

Future Prospects

Our past apprentices have developed their careers, one is currently training to be the Facilities Manager, after completing their apprenticeship 3 years ago. There are many other opportunities at our site or within Framatome, that service and build Nuclear Power Stations.
