Framatome BHR's core business is the development and testing of mechanical components such as pumps or valves. We develop test rigs to test these components and test them for customers. We also develop scale models to test water systems to support computer models for customers to ensure when they build their water system it will work correctly.
On our process side we undertake experiments for mixing chemicals so that our customers can successfully mix new products.
As Framtome we have more work in the Nuclear industry; decommissioning old Nuclear Power Stations and developing experimental rigs for new stations.
Job description
At Framatome, you will be working with some of the best Engineers in the UK who develop a testing solution for our customers. You will take a big part in build our test rigs and building new innovative products.
The Apprentice Mechanical Fitter is also responsible for the following:
Learning about working with different metals and their processes:
- Filing
- Cutting
- Drilling and tapping
- Thread forming
- Welding, electric arc and TIG
- Working with machine tools, pillar drill, lathe, and milling machine
- Working with woodworking machinery, saws, lathe, pillar drill, router and sander
Learning about assembly techniques:
- Bolting of structures
- Assembly of pipework and pressure testing
- Bonding of metals, plastic, and wood
- Working on assembly and test projects. Building the test rig and taking readings of values from instrumentation and using a computer to log the information.
- Safe lifting of materials using machinery.
- Reading engineering drawings and developing the capability to make the part from the drawing.
- Working on the Abrasive Water Jet Cutting equipment we manufacture. Learning to assemble and test.
- Undertaking safety training and able to create and follow risk assessments.
- Assisting our Engineers on site with trials of equipment
- Be part of a Continuous Improvement culture and be a member of a team.
Entry requirements
GCSE Maths and English Grade C/4 or above
Predicted grades will be accepted
Desirable:
GCSE Grade 4 in a Science subject or Practical such as Woodwork/Metalwork
