AS Scientific Products partners with OAS to recruit future-skilled apprentices

AS Scientific Products, one of the world’s major suppliers of cryogenic engineering equipment, has chosen OAS to train its new apprentices from September 2020 in a move to continue its growth and seed its next generation of engineers.

The new partnership will initially see AS Scientific Products work in collaboration with the recruitment team at OAS to welcome two talented apprentices into the business before they embark on OAS’s Advanced Level 3 Apprenticeship in September this year.

AS Scientific Products, which also work with several of OAS’s current employer partners including STFC and Diamond, will then look to take on new apprentices through OAS’s full-service solution on a biennial basis.

Based in Abingdon, AS Scientific Products is an international supplier of high specification, low temperature engineering equipment, offering complete support from concept design through to final construction and commissioning. It works with customers ranging from some of the largest users of liquefied gases, including BAE Systems, Rolls Royce, and Siemens Magnet Technology, to research establishments like the UK Atomic Energy Authority (UKAEA) and the European Council for Nuclear Research (CERN).

For OAS, Oxfordshire’s leading training centre for advanced engineering apprenticeships, the new partnership is testament to the organisation’s commitment to support businesses of all sizes in the local area to develop and nurture the next generation of engineers and leaders that will secure the economic success of the region.

On the new collaboration, Terry Downes, workshop manager at AS Scientific Products said:

“We first heard about OAS when at the earliest stages of its conception and now, seeing the progress made and the new training centre in action, it felt like the right time to engage. We are very excited to become an employer partner of OAS as part of our long-term vision.

“Unlike colleges, OAS is an advanced engineering apprenticeship training centre which is what really appealed to us. Once our apprentices return to our site after the first year off-the-job at OAS, they will arrive with a maturity and foundation skill set that will allow them to hit the ground running. We’re at the forefront of our industry and we are always looking to recruit apprentices that will stay with us for a long time to maintain and build on our international reputation, which is what I feel we have found with OAS.”

Paul Smith, Regional Manager at OAS, commented:

“I’m delighted to have been able to work with Terry and the fantastic team at AS Scientific to forge an alliance with an industry heavyweight with such an illustrious reputation in the locality.

“It is really exciting for us to work with forward-thinking, local organisations who are looking to build for the future, even in these testing times. This announcement is just another sign of our ever-increasing footprint in the local area as we strive to become the go-to advanced engineering apprenticeship provider.”
