The MTC at OAS

Enriching the training experiences of our world class apprentices

The MTC at OAS is an innovative new space on Culham Science Centre, combining the technical expertise of the Manufacturing Technology Centre with the well-located Oxfordshire Advanced Skills, right at the heart of the Oxfordshire Clusters.

The space will enrich the training of apprentices and the local community by bringing exciting  transformational changes to manufacturing technologies to life. These technologies will be used to address sustainability, resilience,
digital adoption and skills challenges.

About the MTC

The MTC was established in 2010 as an independent Research & Technology Organisation (RTO) with the objective of bridging the gap between academia and industry – often referred to as ‘the valley of death’.

Located at Ansty Park, Coventry, the MTC’s rapid growth has seen the expansion of its campus with the construction of more facilities, including the opening of the Advanced Manufacturing Training Centre, where MTC Training provides the skills needed for the future of the UK manufacturing industry.

Its success has culminated in MTC's extension to the North West through the development of a facility in Liverpool, and a partnership with UK Atomic Energy Authority, in which MTC Training delivers apprenticeships in the Thames Valley region through OAS.

ABOUT OAS

Oxfordshire Advanced Skills (OAS) is a hi-tech engineering apprenticeship programme delivered both in centre and in industry, developing the next generation of engineers to support the future skills of businesses.

Located on UKAEA's Culham Science Centre, OAS is a partnership between UKAEA and the Science and Technology Facilities Council, who between them have a history of apprentice training in science and engineering stretching back more than 70 years.

MTC Training provides the advanced manufacturing training at the centre, which houses some of the UK’s most advanced equipment covering a wide range of engineering and technology disciplines.

EXPLORATORY RESEARCH PROJECTS

Do you have an engineering or production challenge you want to explore with a fresh set of eyes, but don’t have the bandwidth or capability to do it in-house?

Could you help to enrich the training of some of Oxfordshire’s most committed apprentices under the expert guidance of the Manufacturing Technology Centre?

To support and enrich the expanding training and apprenticeship programme offered through Oxford Advanced Skills, the Manufacturing Technology Centre will be coming to the Culham Science Centre and, as part of this, we are asking for submissions on specific research projects that you would like our apprentices to undertake.

COLLABORATION SPACE

Set within a bright and spacious part of the Oxfordshire Advanced Skills building, this facility will provide an energised work and meeting area in which trainees, employers and members can share a common space.

Come back regularly for more details on the layout and the options available to you for using the space.

DIGITAL MANUFACTURING ACCELERATOR

The MTC supports companies of all sizes and at all stages of their adoption journey through the Digital Manufacturing Accelerator. Its world-class expertise and state-of-the-art facilities help identify, implement and de-risk the adoption of digital and automation technology solutions to transform businesses and their manufacturing processes, enabling them to build global competitiveness.

The DMA's physical testbed is based at MTC's Liverpool facility, but is supported by a digital platform that can be utilised anywhere, allowing full access from Oxfordshire and beyond.

At OAS, apprentices, employers, and manufacturers from across the region, including supply chains, SMEs and industrial end-users, will have access to this facility, the virtual simulation platform and the expertise behind it.

EXHIBITION OF DEMONSTRATORS

At OAS, we want to expose our apprentices to the latest engineering technologies and the real-world impact of their adoption.

As a result of innovative core research that the MTC undertakes with its partners, a whole host of manufacturing technology demonstrators are at our disposal and will be used to showcase novel technologies in the space. This range of demonstrators will be refreshed on a regular basis. If you have a demonstrator that you would like to exhibit, please contact:
