MEET THE TEAM: BETHY EGGINTON

With a background in teaching, Bethy Egginton’s experience in working with young people is second-to-none. This, coupled with specialisms in Design and Technology and Mental Health, lends perfectly to her role as Recruitment & Outreach Lead at our state-of-the-art Oxfordshire Advanced Skills training centre. With the new academic year fast approaching, and a whole host of new employers looking for apprentice candidates, she’s ready to promote apprenticeships, place keen learners in exciting engineering roles and play her part in supporting the Oxfordshire region to level up!

What is your role at MTC Training?

I am the Recruitment and Outreach Lead for our Oxford site, Oxfordshire Advanced Skills. My role involves organising and leading on outreach and in centre events that promote our fantastic apprenticeship opportunities. Within my role, I support applicants throughout the recruitment process, and offer information, advice, and guidance to all applicants. I lead on applicant assessment centres, and support our employer partners with the recruitment process, matching members of our talent pool to their vacancies. I also support our Apprentice Ambassador programme, once successful apprentices have enrolled.

What do you enjoy most about your role / working at MTC Training?

I have a passion for supporting people take the next step in their education journey. As a STEM subject leader and STEM ambassador, I am passionate about promoting engineering opportunities within the Oxfordshire area. I love speaking to people at outreach events about apprenticeships as an alternative route and the doors this could open for them in their future career. My favourite part of the role is matching an applicant to a vacancy and making the call to say they have been offered the position! Seeing them in centre completing their training is a lovely full circle for me.

Why is MTC Training so important for local businesses?

OAS was originally established to address the local skills gap within engineering and manufacturing. MTC Training helps to close this skills gap by training, upskilling, and reskilling the local workforce to create the next generation of advanced engineers and manufacturers. The Business Development team, which I’m part of, also promote local business opportunities and connect employers at our employer forums. We are heavily involved with the local enterprise partnership and promote STEM apprenticeships through our involvement with this.

How is MTC Training different from other training centres / providers?

The recruitment process is incredibly personal, and I get to know each member of our talent pool individually to ensure that vacancy-matching is successful. We don’t charge for the recruitment process, or the assessment centres, but this makes the process more valuable for our applicants and employers. As we work closely with our parent company, the MTC, we are continually updating and reviewing our apprenticeship programmes and opportunities to ensure we are on the cutting edge of the industry.

In your opinion, what are the benefits of choosing an apprenticeship?

Employers are increasingly looking for individuals with practical experience. An apprenticeship allows you to earn whilst you learn, gain vocational knowledge, skills, and behaviours for your future career, and gain a reputable qualification at the same time. If you are a practical, hands-on person, then an apprenticeship is a great alternative to A Levels or a BTEC Extended Diploma, AND you get paid!

Why should someone choose to study with MTC Training?

OAS is a fantastic training centre with state-of-the-art facilities and experienced, knowledgeable trainers. Our programmes support you to develop holistically, taking account of your future career, your academic achievements, and personal growth. The OAS team are incredibly supportive, and I am proud to be a part of it!
